BU Professor Emeritus Dr. Pandelis
Halamandaris honoured by National Ethnic Press and Media Council of
Canada

BRANDON, MB – The
National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC) has honoured Dr.
Pandelis Halamandaris, Professor Emeritus of Teacher Education at Brandon
University, and Deputy Director of the University of Manitoba Centre for
Hellenic Civilization, with a Community/Arts Award recognizing his
outstanding achievements, contributions and community service in promoting
the understanding, the traditions and the interests of Hellenic-Canadian
communities, and for his leadership, courage and dedication for the
promotion of multiculturalism, human rights, respect of human and cultural
values, and equality among all Canadians.

"It is always an Honour to be recognized outside your immediate
environment," says Dr. Halamandaris.

The Lieutenant Governor and NEPCC President Thomas S. Saras presented the
award to Dr. Halamandaris at a ceremony held in the Lieutenant Governor's
Suite in the Main Legislative Building of Ontario on September 22, 2006 in
Toronto.

A Professor at BU since 1969, Halamandaris was named Professor Emeritus in
2001, and was instrumental in developing the Indian and Metis Project for
Action in Careers Through Teacher Education (IMPACTE) program, a predecessor
to the current Brandon University Northern Teacher Education Program
(BUNTEP), and was Director of the International Development Projects
(1975-95)- Malawi, Swaziland, Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia . Dr.
Halamadaris is a previous recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the
University of Swaziland and the Marquis Project's Global Citizenship Award,
and currently sits on that organization's Board of Directors.

The purpose of The National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada Awards
is to honour the outstanding contributions and achievements of the
individuals and organizations in fostering an inclusive and equitable
community of communities. Nominations for the awards are open to individual
residents and organizations based or operating in Canada (includes voluntary
non-profit, business & government agencies) for their outstanding
contributions and achievements, and for exceptional activities in journalism
and toward developing cultural awareness and harmony for a more inclusive
and equitable community in Canada. Each year, 20 awards are given, divided
into the following categories: 10 for Journalism Awards and 10 for
individuals in the community.
