October 5, 2006 Source: : http://www.nipissingu.ca/news/view.asp?ID=20060816 Second Queerical Up North meeting October 5 Queer students and LGBTTIQ friends and allies are invited to attend the second meeting of Queerical Up North on Thursday October 5, from 4 – 5:30 p.m. in room H110. Querical Up North works to unite students, as well as community members, to proactively examine society and intersections of race, class, gender, sexual orientation, ablebodiness, geographical location, language and culture through the lens of sexuality. We explore artistic mediums such as film, television, children and adolescent literature, creative writing, poetry, collage, and painting. We offer community-based educational workshops, seminars, and presentations to promote social justice and increased understanding of heterosexism and homophobia. The theme for this meeting is Using Collage to Understand Sexuality, Race, Class, Gender and Disability. We will watch clips from The Poster Child Shoots Back by Esther Ignagni (2004). Then, this week’s group facilitator will introduce us to collage as one way to better examine not only sexual orientation but other interlinked parts of identity such as race, class, gender, and disability in particular. Bring: catalogue, glue stick, scissors if possible, but we should have enough ; BRING A FRIEND!
