Celebrate the
sound that is Newfoundland and Labrador’s
folklore

On
Saturday, Oct. 7 from 3-5 p.m., the public are invited to The Rooms for the
launch of a new archival project that highlights the ties between culture
and place, and blends words and music to explore regional traditions and the
aural documentation of the past. During the event, Memorial’s Department of
Folklore and its Research Centre for the Study of Music, Media and Place
(MMaP) will release a new CD called Newfoundland and Labrador Folklore: A
Sampler of Songs, Narrations, and Tunes.
The Saturday afternoon event will feature historic recordings from the
Memorial University Folklore and Language Archive (MUNFLA), set against the
ongoing innovative exhibition Intangible Evidence, which closes on Sunday.
A reception will be hosted by The Rooms, Provincial Art Gallery. The event
takes place at The Rooms (Level 4), 9 Bonaventure Avenue. All are welcome.
