U of R appoints new deans and associate vice-president

Michael Tymchak was appointed acting dean of the Faculty of Education, effective July 2006. Tymchak has served the U of R for the past 18 years. He was dean of education from 1992 to 2000, after which he served a research consultant for the Transdisciplinary Project to lead the development of interdisciplinary initiatives at the University. Currently, he is also the director of the Saskatchewan Instructional Development and Research Unit (SIDRU), and professor of educational foundations in the Faculty of Education.

David Schantz was appointed dean of social work, effective Aug. 2006. Schantz comes to the U of R from the University of Montana, where he was a faculty member in the School of Social Work. His specialization is community-based services for severely emotionally disturbed children and program evaluation. He has worked extensively in evaluating state-wide adult mental health programming as well as community-based programming for the corrections system. Schantz is also experienced in developing, managing, and providing direct services within the mental health system.

Nelson Wagner was appointed associate vice-president (facilities and planning), effective Aug. 2006. Before coming to the U of R, Wagner was executive director, facilities branch for the Saskatchewan Departments of Learning and Advanced Education and Employment. He has more than 25 years of progressive facilities management experience, including capital and maintenance planning, budgeting and project management.
