Brock Days 2006: stomping to another great celebration

The Brock Days tradition continues as the University holds its annual community and homecoming celebration in partnership with the Niagara Wine Festival on Friday, Sept. 29, Saturday, Sept. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 1.

Brock Days will feature many events, including the annual grape stomp, graduate reunions, varsity athletic games, wine venues, live entertainment, and more.

Amy Elder, Chair of Brock Days 2006, said that as in years past, the University looks forward to inviting the community to participate in the scheduled events along with Brock students, staff, graduates and faculty.

"The Niagara Wine Festival is a wonderful time for Brock to link with friends and neighbours in the broader community," she said.

On Thursday, Sept. 28, Brock will hold its sixth annual "Fine Food, Fine Wine, Fine Arts!" event from 7 to 10 p.m., at Rodman Hall in downtown St. Catharines. This sold out event celebrates Niagara's finest chefs and many of our region's wonderful wineries.

Also on Thursday, the Centre for the Arts will present "Note for Note. Cut for Cut. Classic Albums Live... Queen: A Night at the Opera," at 7:30 p.m., in the Sean O'Sullivan Theatre. A limited number of tickets are still available by calling 905-688-5550, ext. 3257.

Brock faculty, staff and students will officially kick off Brock Days on Friday, Sept. 29 from 12 noon to 1: 30 p.m., as Lock 8 performs in Jubilee Courtyard on the Brock campus. The annual Grape Stomp extravaganza will begin at 12:30 p.m. during the intermission. Everyone is invited to dive in, get their feet wet and stomp away! Those who wish to register a team should contact Kristen Smith at 905-688 -5550, ext. 3845.

Brock will again enter a float in the Grande Parade on Saturday, Sept. 30 and from 12 noon to 6 p.m., Brock graduates can meet at several reunions in Montebello Park. A Brock welcome area will be located at the corner of Ontario and Lake Streets.

There are also several varsity athletic events scheduled throughout the weekend. A BBQ to celebrate Brock Athletics will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Brock's United Way Campaign.
