UNBC Professor Hosts Photography Exhibition on Campus

Stunning black and white photographs of western Newfoundland are being exhibited by UNBC professor Michael Rutherford from September 18 to November 3. Presented by the UNBC Arts Council, the exhibition will be featured on the third floor of the Geoffrey R. Weller Library at UNBC. A total of 23 images will be presented.

Dr. Rutherford is a professor in UNBC’s Environmental Science and Engineering program. He is also an accomplished photographer, placing first (2003) and second (2000) in the Canadian Association for Photographic Arts Annual National Print Competition.

"Living in western Newfoundland between 1997 and 2001 offered me numerous opportunities for my type of landscape photography: diverse geology and landforms, rugged shorelines, forests and rivers, and dramatic lighting conditions," says Dr. Rutherford, who came to UNBC in 2001. "In this exhibit, I want to give the audience a glimpse of the diversity and ruggedness of the Newfoundland landscape. It’s those characteristics that I also love to capture in my more recent photography around northern BC."

The opening reception for Black and White Images of Western Newfoundland will be Thursday, September 21 from 3:00 – 4:00pm on the third floor of the Geoffrey R. Weller Library.
