Biography

MONTREAL/September 14, 2005 —

Yvan Allaire (Ph. D.) will act as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Governance of Private and Public Organizations. He obtained his PhD from the Sloan School of Management (MIT) and is an Associate Professor at HEC Montréal and Professor Emeritus at UQAM. An expert in strategic issues and co-founder of Secor Consulting, Mr. Allaire has worked as an advisor and strategist with leading Canadian businesses throughout his career. From 1996 to 2001, he was the Executive Vice-President of Bombardier Inc. and, in 2003, he chaired the working group on the modernization and governance of state-owned companies created by the Quebec government.

Mr. Allaire has sat on a number of boards of directors, including that of the Caisse de dépôt et de placement du Québec, and is also the chair of the Caisse’s ethics and governance committee. He is a prolific writer, with many publications on strategy and governance to his credit, and has given various seminars on these topics to board directors.

Michel Nadeau (Ph. D.) is the Executive Director of the Institute for Governance of Private and Public Organizations. From 1974 to 1984, he was a business editor and editorial writer for Le Devoir. He then joined the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, where he stayed for nearly two decades, holding various high-level management positions, including President of CDP Capital, a company with more than $100 billion in assets.

He sat on the corporate governance committee of the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC) for several years. He is a member of a number of boards of directors for private companies and non-profit organizations.

Lorne Switzer (Ph. D.) is currently a professor of finance and chair of the Finance Department at the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University and the Van Berkom Endowed Chair in Small Cap Equities. During his tenure as the department chair, several initiatives were brought to fruition including the launching of the state of the art Investment and Trading Centre, the first Web-based course in the faculty, the Finance Co-op program, the Ken Woods Portfolio Management Program, whereby students are given hands on experience as fund managers, the Ned Goodman Investment Graduate Programs and the Honours in Finance Program.

He has published several academic articles and books and has served since 1994 as an Associate Editor for the journal European Financial Management.
