Catherine Bush and Charles Foran will kick off this year's University of New Brunswick English department reading series.

The event will take place on Friday, Sept. 23, at 4 p.m in the main auditorium of UNB Fredericton’s Memorial Hall, 9 Bailey Dr.

Admission is free and all are welcome. Catherine Bush is UNBF's writer-in-residence for 2005-06. She is the author of three internationally acclaimed novels Minus Time (1993), The Rules of Engagement (2000), most recently, Claire’s Head (2004).

The Rules of Engagement was a New York Times Notable Book and was chosen by both the Globe and Mail and the L.A. Times as the Best Book of the Year.

Ms. Bush has a degree in comparative literature from Yale University and has taught creative writing at Concordia University, the University of Florida, and elsewhere. Ms. Bush comes to UNBF from Toronto.

Charles Foran was shortlisted for the Governor-General’s Award for The Last House of Ulster.

His newest novel, Carolan’s Farewell is about an 18th-century harper and his travels home across famine-ravaged Ireland.

Ms. Bush will be in Fredericton until April 2006. She will be available to assist the public and members of the UNB community with their creative writing questions.

Her appointment is being funded by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Arts Board of New Brunswick, and UNB.
