UNBC Expands Course Offerings in Continuing Studies

In response to growing enrolments, the University is expanding its course offerings in Continuing Studies to provide citizens of northern BC with more opportunities to access UNBC courses for their personal development.

This year, Continuing Studies is offering more than 160 courses – a 40% increase over last year. The courses in Continuing Education include offerings in Business and Executive Education, Professional Development, Computer Training, Health and Safety, Personal Wellness, Liberal Arts and Culture, Writing and Publishing, and Natural Resource Management and Environment. There are also general interest courses and offerings specifically designed for elder citizens. The first courses in the 2005-06 academic year begin at the end of this month.

“A new program this year is a mini-medical school that features instructors and students from the Northern Medical Program,” says Randall Brazzoni, coordinator of Continuing Studies at UNBC. “Instructors for all of our courses are national experts, UNBC professors, or people from the community who have particular skills and experience in the areas they’re teaching. Last year, we had 3390 students take Continuing Studies courses, more than double the number from the previous year, and we’re now starting to offer courses in other communities around northern BC.”

Most of the courses in Continuing Studies are not-for-UNBC-credit, but some of them can open the door to further study in a degree program.

Information about all UNBC courses – those leading to a degree as well as those in Continuing Studies – can be accessed from the UNBC homepage or from www.unbc.ca/courses. Registration for courses in Continuing Studies can also be completed online.
