September 19, 2006 Source: : http://www.wlu.ca/homepage.php?grp_id=1867&pv=1 Laurier will open a faculty of education next year With the launch of its Faculty of Education, Wilfrid Laurier University has become an even more exciting place to teach and learn. The new Faculty, located on Laurier’s Waterloo campus, will open in September 2007. Up to 90 elementary school teachers will be trained each year, in a unique program. Through this one-year consecutive program, students with an undergraduate degree from a recognized university will earn a Bachelor of Education degree. On receiving approval from the Ontario College of Teachers, graduates will be certified to practice in the Ontario education system, teaching Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6. The program is designed to meet all Ontario legislated requirements, and incorporates the Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards for the Teaching Profession of the Ontario College of Teachers.
