The event will take place in the Brandon University gymnasium (located on Louise Avenue at 20th Street) as part of Blueprint: BU's 2005 New Student Orientation and Launch. Five hundred students have registered to take part in Blueprint this year, and it is expected that three-to-four hundred students will participate in the game. As no official record currently exists for the number of participants in a single Twister game, BU has an opportunity to set the bar and a record we would challenge other institutions to meet or beat! Students will be split into 4 teams and will play on 75 joined Twister mats, supplied by event sponsor Hasbro Canada. Members of the winning team will have their names entered into a prize draw at Tuesday night's orientation social for Twister prize packs that will include games, t-shirts and more. "In addition to being an active, fun event for students to participate in, this record setting Twister game embodies what orientation itself is all about," says BUSU Member Services Coordinator Kyle Lougheed, "bringing students together for a shared and memorable university experience. BUSU is pleased and excited to be a part of what we hope will be one of this school year's most memorable activities." "Every year we try to make orientation as meaningful and relevant to new students as we can," says Director of Enrolment Services Dr. J. David McLeod. "The addition of the Twister event is one more step in that direction. I'm very excited about it, and the response from new students has been tremendous." Canada's Largest Twister Game will follow the Brandon University Launch Ceremony, which features welcoming messages from BU President Dr. Louis P. Visentin and BUSU President Mitch Obach, as well as the lighting of the Lamp of Knowledge, performances by the BU Jazz Quartet and a keynote address to be delivered by BU alumnus and Vancouver lawyer Michelle Gahagan (BA 1982). Michelle will provide new BU students with a window into what they can expect in the years ahead. Brandon media are welcome to join BU students and staff for the launch, which begins at 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 6 in the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium at the north end of the BU campus, and then come over to the BU Gym to witness what is sure to be an unforgettable game of Twister!
