September 1, 2006 Source: : http://www.laurentian.ca/?file=newsrelease/2006/sept/LUSU_Sept01_e.php Laurentian University staff negotiations: tentative agreement reached Negotiating teams for Laurentian University and the Laurentian University Staff Union (LUSU) are pleased to announce that they have reached a tentative settlement on a new collective agreement, which will be retroactive to July 1, 2006. The tentative settlement was reached by both negotiating teams on the second day of intensive mediation talks, Friday, September 1. Members of the staff union voted in favour of the agreement later that day. The settlement is subject to approval by the University's Board of Governors. "I am very proud of the excellent work that was accomplished by both sides during the negotiations and I applaud their efforts," said Dr. Judith Woodsworth, Laurentian University President. "Laurentian University is pleased that a strike was avoided and that our new and returning students will be able to start their academic year without disruption." "We are pleased that this agreement has been achieved," said Tracy Oost, LU Staff Union President, "We're thrilled that our issues were addressed to our satisfaction. Both teams are to be thanked and congratulated for their extremely hard work during some very intense negotiations."
