DAVIS TO READ AT UNB SAINT JOHN September 20, 2005 UNB Saint John News Release: 05-047 Patty O'Brien, Information Officer (506) 648-5707 Author Lauren B. Davis will read from her novel, entitled The Radiant City, on Monday, Oct. 3 at 7 pm at the Faculty-Staff Club, Ward Chipman Library Building. This is the second event in the Lorenzo Reading Series at the University of New Brunswick Saint John. The Radiant City of the title is Paris, in which freelance journalist, Matthew Bowles is recuperating from injuries sustained in a shooting in Hebron. Trapped in his own world of depression and panic, Matthew’s attempts to work through his trauma take him on a journey through his past, and lead him to connections in his present relationships, with the city of Paris as backdrop and metaphor. “The heart of the novel [The Radiant City],” a reviewer in Paris Voice says, “is about recapturing a sense of wonder and belonging.” Lauren B. Davis of Princeton, New Jersey, and formerly of Paris, is the author of a collection of short fiction, Rat Medicine and Other Unlikely Curatives (2000), and the critically acclaimed The Stubborn Season (2002), her debut novel. The reading is hosted by the Lorenzo Society and the UNB Saint John Bookstore. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend. For more information contact The University Bookstore at (506) 648-5540 or e-mail sjbooks@unbsj.ca. The Lorenzo Reading Series gratefully acknowledges the support of the Canada Council of the Arts. - 30 -
