Donovan Bailey To Speak at Carleton University on the Importance of Mentoring

Special guest Donovan Bailey will speak on the importance of mentoring as part of the EDULINX Mentoring Awareness Tour. This year, the Dean of Student Affairs Office at Carleton University has introduced a Peer Helper initiative to increase student leadership and mentoring opportunities at Carleton.

Background:

This is the First Year Experience Office’s (FYEO) second featured event of the year. “FYEO is launching a Peer Helper program to help students with their transition to University and help every student achieve gold with their education,” says Greg Jefford from the FYEO Office. “As Donovan speaks about the importance of mentoring, we want students to recognize the importance of mentoring in the Carleton community, as well as the greater Ottawa community with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters Ottawa.”

Donovan has recently created the Donovan Bailey Foundation committed to the advancement and financial assistance of Canada's most talented amateur athletes, and is a spokesman for many charitable works, including the Canadian Cancer Society, the Ontario Lung Association and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto. Donovan is the 2005-6 celebrity spokesperson for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. As someone who knows first-hand what a difference a mentor can make in the life of a child, he is passionate about ensuring that every child in Canada has the opportunity to achieve Gold!
