September 21, 2006 Source: : http://www.brandonu.ca/news/article.asp?A_ID=1096 Brandon University brings back traditional Fall Homecoming weekend September 29, 30 & October 1 BRANDON, MB – Brandon University is happy to announce the return, by popular demand, of Fall Homecoming. This year will mark the first time in approximately a decade that Fall Homecoming will be held, as recent years have seen a reunion weekend typically held in May. This year's celebrations, being held on September 29, September 30 and October 1, will honour the anniversary class years of 1936, 1946, 1956, 1966, 1981, and 1996. Everyone from the Brandon Community is welcome to join in the fun! The weekend will kick off on Friday, September 29 with Check-In, a Welcome Reception, and Munchies @ SUDS from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This is your chance to meet up with classmates and see who else is coming in for the weekend – stop by to pick up your weekend passes and itinerary! Following the check-in on Friday, head over to the BU gymnasium to watch the BU Alumni basketball team take on the Bobcats. Watch the game from sports lounge reserved in the upper mezzanine and enjoy some drinks and free popcorn! On Saturday, September 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Class Reunions in the BU Alumni Association Gathering Space (located in the BU library) will offer a chance to reunite with old classmates reminisce with copies of The Sickle (the BU yearbook) and photos from throughout the year. Enjoy a campus tour from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. and then enjoy the Masters Lecture series, to be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Lewis D. Whitehead Lecture Hall (Room 212 Clark Hall on the BU Campus), featured speakers will be Professor Al Rogosin, speaking on The Pleasures and Perils of Botany (and Teaching), and Dr. Dale Hayes, who will talk about why It is Great to Be a Teacher! Following the lectures, feel free to join in the fun at the Grand Opening celebration for the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art (located on Victoria Avenue at 20th Street, with an entrance off the parking lot on the north side of the building) from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon will also mark the launch of the Brandon University Bobcats Wall of Fame, with a luncheon ceremony from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Victoria Inn (located at 3550 Victoria Avenue West) in Salon 1 and Salon 2. The Brandon University Sport Wall of Fame has evolved from the integration of the former Brandon University Hockey Hall of Fame and the Brandon University Basketball Hall of Fame. The new format will also include both genders and all of the other sports that have been part of Brandon College programming dating back to the pre -Brandon University days 1967 and earlier. On Saturday night, a reception will be held in BU's Main Dining Hall from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., followed by a Banquet and Awards & Re-Convocation ceremony. You won’t want to miss this, or the featured entertainment: Scotty McIntosh's Big Band! Finally, finish off a wonderful weekend with the Farewell Champagne Brunch in the Main Dining Hall at 10:00 a.m. featuring an open mic session for sharing stories and bidding farewell to old friends!
