McMaster Provost steps down

Dear members of the McMaster community,

I wish to inform you of a significant change in the senior leadership of the University. Ken Norrie has resigned as McMaster's provost. He will continue as a faculty member in the Faculty of Social Sciences where he will refocus his attention on teaching and research.

Ken has been McMaster's provost since 2002 and during that time has helped to move the University forward on a number of projects including our strategic plan, Refining Directions, McMaster's growth through the double cohort, and the early work on establishing a McMaster campus in Burlington. I extend my thanks for his many contributions and his strong belief in McMaster's student-centred vision, research excellence, and potential for even greater advancements.

Since Ken's resignation is effective immediately, associate vice-president, academic, Fred A. Hall will assume responsibility for the provost's office until an acting provost can be appointed. I'd like to thank Fred for his willingness to help and to provide leadership on the priority initiatives of the Office of the Provost.

Peter George
