Pianist Maureen Volk takes the stage, Sept. 29

SACKVILLE, NB — The music department of Mount Allison University is pleased to present a guest recital by pianist Maureen Volk. The recital will take place in Brunton Auditorium on Thursday, September 29, beginning at 8 p.m. There is no admission charge for Dr. Volk's recital and the public is warmly invited to attend.

Dr. Volk's recital is entitled "In Character: Schubert and Debussy." Featured are the Six Moments musicaux, op. 94 and an Impromptu by Franz Schubert, and Claude Debussy's Images, Book II and Children's Corner suite.

Maureen Volk began her piano studies in Saskatchewan, and received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Regina. With the assistance of the Canada Council, she continued her studies at The Juilliard School in New York, where she received a Master of Music degree, and at Indiana University, where she completed her doctorate in 1992. Her piano teachers include Sasha Gorodnitzki, Shigeo Neriki, and Edna Golandsky.

Dr. Volk has performed as a recitalist, orchestral soloist, and chamber musician in Canada and the United States. She was president of the Canadian University Music Society from 1997-99 and director of the School of Music at Memorial from 1990-2000. She remains on faculty at Memorial's School of Music, where she teaches piano, piano literature and pedagogy, and aural skills.
