Shinerama Festival: Students Race to Raise Funds for Cystic Fibrosis Research

On Wednesday, September 28th, 2005, from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM, hundreds of students, faculty and staff are participating in the "Amazing Race" set to take place on the BCIT sports field.
The event is the largest post-secondary fundraiser in Canada and is the pinnacle of the Shinerama fundraising campaign.

This year's goal is to raise $35,000 to support finding a cure for cystic fibrosis. Last year over 700 people helped raise almost $32,000 for research. Shinerama 2005 will have teams of six competing in five events:

1. Carabiner Rope Maze: Teams are roped together and have to navigate through a course and assemble a puzzle

2. Maquinna Mountain Madness: Team members ride a mountain board down a hill and across a field

3. Over the Top: Teams crawl under a rope, run through tires and climb over a 12-foot-high cargo net

4. Beat the Pond: Teams cross an 18-inch-round log placed across Guichon Creek

5. Climb to Shine: Teams climb to the top of a 20-foot-tall climbing wall

The event includes live music, a barbeque, and a dunk tank.
