U of C Department of Drama presents two Alberta plays for Alberta's Centennial

The University of Calgary Department of Drama kicks off its Mainstage Season by celebrating Alberta's Centennial. Two Alberta plays, Still Stands the House & Pasque Flower by Gwen Pharis Ringwood will take place October 25 – November 5, 2005 at the Reeve Theatre at the University of Calgary.

Gwen Pharis Ringwood is one of Alberta's most respected dramatists, who was writing at a time when there was little community theatre in the province, much less any professional theatre. She was an important pioneering figure in the development of the community and educational theatre of western Canada, and was one of the first Canadian writers to define a distinctive voice of prairie regionalism in the theatre.

In these two short plays, her depictions of farm life on the prairies are stark, but she infuses them with a rich sense of character and human conflict. The plays illustrate the power of landscape and climate in our culture. Still Stands the House is set in mid-winter, and tells a story of madness that ends in tragedy. Pasque Flower is set in early spring and takes us on a journey through alienation and conflict to renewed hope.

Just some of the team bringing this prairie drama to life are Director James Dugan, Set and Lighting Designer J. Jim Andrews, Costume Designer Douglas McCullough, and Stage Manager Katt Boulet.
