http://www.mun.ca/marcomm/news/index.php?includefile=showitem.php&id=1287 Cognitive Science Lecture Series: The Math Plague For many years, Dr. Sherry Mantyka, director of Memorial’s Mathematics Learning Centre, has been identifying factors which contribute to under-achievement in mathematics of students entering the university. Faced with a pervasive problem she turned to Dr. Michael Rabinowitz, a cognitive psychologist, for assistance, and together they developed solutions to the math problems using cognitive psychology.
