September 26, 2006 Source: : http://www.brandonu.ca/news/article.asp?A_ID=1105 Grand Opening of the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art at Brandon University BRANDON, MB – Join us on Saturday, September 30, 2006 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. as Brandon University marks a very special occasion: the grand opening of the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art. An official ceremony and ribbon cutting will take place at 4:00 p.m. The Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art is located on Victoria Avenue between 20th and 21st Streets, with parking and entry on the north side of the building (facing the rest of the BU campus). The Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art was made possible through a generous $200,000 donation pledged to Brandon University by Grant Sutherland in memory of his father, the late Glen P. Sutherland, an associate alumnus from the class of 1939 at Brandon College (please see the attached for a full biography of Glen P. Sutherland). The renovated space in the Jeff Umphrey Centre currently houses classrooms, studio space and offices for the Brandon University Visual and Aboriginal Arts Department, and the opening of the gallery will expand these functions to include a dedicated space for the display of student and faculty artwork from the Brandon University visual arts programs, as well as from the joint Digital Media and Design major program that BU shares with Assiniboine Community College. The grand opening will feature welcoming remarks from Brandon University President Dr. Louis P. Visentin, Colleen Cutschall, Chair of the Visual and Aboriginal Arts Department, and Dr. Scott Grills, Dean of Arts and Graduate Studies. Cutschall will also introduce two guests of honour: Glen P. Sutherland's wife Gwen Sutherland, and son Grant Sutherland, who will be on hand for an official ribbon cutting. The Brandon University Jazz Combo, led by Professor Greg Gatien of the School of Music, will provide music. Following the ceremony, guests will be welcome to stay and enjoy champagne, punch and petits fours, and to enjoy the art on display from faculty and students at Brandon University and Assiniboine Community College.
