U of G to Host Opera on Norman Bethune

The University of Guelph is hosting a touring chamber opera chronicling the last five years in the life of renowned Canadian doctor Norman Bethune Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. in Room 107 of the MacKinnon Building. The event is free and open to the public.

Three Cities in the Life of Dr. Norman Bethune was written by Montreal composer/musician Tim Brady. Since 1988, Brady has released 11 CDs as a composer and electric guitarist. His work has been performed by ensembles and orchestras in North America, Australia and Europe. He leads the electroacoustic chamber ensemble Bradyworks and frequently performs solo concerts at major international venues.

"This is a great opportunity for people to see and hear the accessible and dynamic music of a major Canadian composer played by a top-notch ensemble of Montreal virtuoso musicians," said music professor Ellen Waterman.

The performance will feature baritone Michael Donovan and nine musicians, including Bradyworks with Brady on electric guitar.

U of G students are invited to attend an open rehearsal in Room 107 of the MacKinnon Building at 5:30 p.m.
