For the first time, Concordia's new president Claude Lajeunesse will join hundreds of staff, faculty, students, alumni and friends in the 6.5 km walkathon from the University's downtown Sir George Williams Campus to its Loyola Campus to raise funds for scholarships and bursaries. Since its inception, the Concordia Shuffle has raised more than $650,000 and some 300 students have benefited from these funds. This year, the event will kick-off at 1 p.m. in the new Engineering, Computer Science and Visual Arts Integrated Complex at the corner of Guy and St. Catherine Sts. (1515 St. Catherine St. West). Tradition will also meet innovation, as Concordia takes this opportunity to launch a new fundraising program called Adopt-a-Student. Donors will be encouraged to commit to between $500 and $2,500 annually over a 3-year period. Although they won't be able to choose who they "adopt", the student recipients will be encouraged to contact their sponsor. So far, funds have been raised to adopt 217 students.
