"Alumni have been asking us for more access to the variety of educational opportunities that drew them to Queen’s originally – from cultural through to recreational. Responding to that demand has captured the imagination of many enthusiastic members of the Queen’s community. Thanks to them, we are now ready to launch an education program that we believe will flourish over time and provide a valuable service. Homecoming’06 is just the beginning," says Judith Brown, Executive Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. "It is important to emphasize that these sessions are not only for alumni. We hope that the local community will enjoy participating as well, and that they will let us know how we are doing," she says. The following events are all open to the public: "Survived and Thrived" – Young Alumni Panel Discussion Alumni are invited to attend this discussion by four recent Toronto-based grads who will share their perspectives on their post-Queen’s career paths. 3:00 – 4:00 pm Friday, September 15 Ellis Auditorium Queen’s Great Debate ‘06 This "main event" features Queen’s Chair of Defence Management Studies Doug Bland in debate with Steven Staples, Director of Security Programs at the Polaris Institute regarding Canada’s role in Afghanistan. Former CBC radio personality Avril Benoit will moderate the debate. 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm Friday, September 15 Biosciences Complex, room 1101 Alumni Forums The three alumni forums have faculty panelists and associates offering their insights and presenting their research in their respective fields. The forums run concurrently. The Arts and Healing Panelists: Lola Cuddy (Psychology professor), Bill Thomson (PhD) and Jill Scott, (German studies professor). Bullying Panelists: Wendy Craig (Psychology professor) and Ashllie Claassen (peace by PEACE Co-Founder).
