This can happen in a university environment where they also teach chemistry, analytical chemistry, and physical chemistry. It can also take place in private industry such as environmental regulation, food safety, and pharmaceuticals.
Hospitals will also employ analytical chemists to help physicians diagnose disease.
They background in analytical chemistry can also be used for a career in marketing, medicine, pharmacy, engineering, or law. As well, with an additional teaching degree, analytical chemists can work in high schools teaching chemistry.
