Aquaculture and Aquatic Topics and Concepts in Canadian Universities
What do Aquaculture and Aquatic Students Learn? Aquaculture programs are offered by selected universities and technical colleges in Canada, usually at the certificate or diploma level, although there are a few four-year degree programs offered. They generally provide a strong background in the biological sciences, including fish health, nutrition and production, aquatic ecology, and algology. Some programs also provide courses in business-related topics such as management, economics, legislation, marketing and distribution. Practical experience in the industry is integral to such programs, in which students learn to maintain water recirculation systems and biofilters, calibrate and use water quality equipment, and manage the aquatic ecosystem that grows and sustains the fish or shellfish crop.
