Art and Music Therapy Topics and Concepts in Canadian Universities
What do Art and Music Therapy Students Learn? Music and art therapists use various forms of artistic expression to promote, maintain and rebuild the physical, emotional and spiritual health of individuals. Since such therapists are often employed as part of the healing or rehabilitation process, students of art and music therapy learn not only the techniques and aesthetics of the art form they employ, but also the health care and psychological principles on which their work is founded. They learn to prepare, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of music and art therapy programs through the development of a treatment plan for each client. Finally, internships are an important part of music and art therapy programs as the student prepares for a career.
