Environmental Geography Research Areas and Disciplines

Researchers are involved in a variety of endeavors such as population growth and the global environment, causes of famine, and the protection of environmental areas such as tropical forests.

A current area of research is in modern environments, including the impact of fossil fuel combustion on the atmosphere. Areas studied include aviation and truck transportation, where they are studying the impact of oil resource limitations and fuel prices on these industries. Others are studying environmental impact assessments and their effectiveness on various environments.

Another major focus of current research is in climate change vulnerability and adaptation. Researchers are investigating the vulnerabilities of people and communities to changes in water, temperature, ice, extreme events, sea level rise, and other conditions related to natural resources and livelihoods.

A lot of research takes place in collaboration with those in sociology, environmental resource management, and political science, to address issues in international development, risk management, resilience, governance, and livelihood enhancement.
