Fashion Design Topics and Concepts in Canadian Universities
What do Fashion Design Students Learn? Fashion design students pursue courses in the history, aesthetics, and theory of the profession, as well as practical courses in drafting (both computer-based and traditional), patternmaking, drawing and sewing. Students learn to use principles of colour, fabric, functionality and design to produce clothing designs that are original and expressive of their personal vision. They become proficient in the production of apparel from first sketch to final stitch, and are usually exposed to the key business and marketing principles of the industry. As preparation for a career in the field, internships are usually an important part of one’s degree work, and international exchanges with other schools are sometimes offered.
