What do Information Systems and Technology Students Learn?

Rather than creating programs and algorithms as computer science students do, information technology students work with existing applications, learning how to operate word processing, database, spreadsheet and Internet-based software. They learn the methods and principles of computerized communications, organizational theory, data collection, records management, mathematics and statistics, information and human resource management. Graduates emerge with the skills necessary to employ innovative technology to gain strategic advantage in a given business or industry. To enhance their employability, students may choose to combine their studies with work in a related discipline such as accounting, economics, marketing, business administration, or finance.
