Prerequisites for Graduate Studies in Microbiology and Immunology

Admission to a graduate-level program requires a previous degree in a related discipline with a minimum B+ average (in some cases this must be an honors degree). Acceptable related disciplines include biology, chemistry, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Some schools also require some form of advanced laboratory experience in a microbiology research environment (eg. co-op, directed studies, employment as a laboratory technician, etc.).

Admission to a PhD program can either be directly from an undergraduate degree (in addition to already having extensive research experience, and being published in a peer-reviewed journal), or after acquiring a relevant MSc degree.

Applicants who hold international degrees and wish admission to a graduate-level degree must supply a GRE (graduate record exam) with a score of at least 75%.

As all graduate programs require a supervisor, some schools require this person to be approved prior to final admission.
