Recreation and Leisure Topics and Concepts in Canadian Universities

What do Recreation and Leisure Students Learn?

One popular area of study relates a recreation degree to the field of kinesiology, which is the study of the cultural, physical and psychomotor sources of human movement. Still other programs equip a student to work as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, with opportunities to pursue careers in the public and private sector. Students may focus more on tourism, economics, education, gerontology, recreation management, anthropology, fine arts or sciences such as biology, depending on the program offered. Many students may pursue dual degrees or dual majors allowing them to be more flexible in the workforce or in their future studies. Regardless of the path chosen, there is usually an internship element to the program that allows students the chance to gain confidence and experience in one of the varied work settings.
