To be admitted to a Master's-level program in sociology, students must have completed an undergraduate degree in sociology or related discipline (such as economics or political science) with at least a B+ average. Previous work experience in a sociology environment is considered an asset.
To be admitted to a PhD program in sociology, students must have completed a Master's-level degree in sociology. Some schools will allow direct transfer from an undergraduate degree to a PhD, provided the student has a sufficiently high average (A-) and an aptitude for research.
For all graduate programs, the student must have a prospective supervisor chosen prior to final admission.
