Theatre Acting and Performance Topics and Concepts in Canadian Universities
What do Theatre Acting and Performance Students Learn? Depending on the institution, theatre acting may be considered as a separate field of study or may be included in a more general degree that includes other aspects of theatre, such as design, production, playwriting and directing. There may also be opportunities to combine a theatre degree with another discipline such as education or communication studies. In any case, acting students take courses in both the techniques of acting and in the interpretation of dramatic literature. They learn to interpret text, to project and use their voice and body to convey emotion and meaning. Some institutions also cover the practical aspects of the entertainment industry, from unions to agents. There are usually many opportunities in the campus environment and in the larger community to participate in theatrical productions, and students are encouraged to take advantage of these.
