What services does your organization provide?
Referrals, crisis counselling, childcare, school program (grades 1-9 onsite and referrals for grades 10+), support and education groups, volunteer program, outreach services


Do you have any age requirements?
Volunteers must be aged 18 or older


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No requirements but Cree is an asset


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
2 hours 1-2 days per week


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Volunteers must complete a criminal record check, Child and Youth Intervention Record Check (CYIM check), and Oath of confidentiality before beginning due to the sensitive nature of the shelter environment


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
Patience, compassion and a willingness to learn


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Childcare, assisting with the school program, household helpers, cooking and/or baking. We are open to hearing about ideas you may have for new volunteer opportunities.


Do you provide training for volunteers?
Volunteers will be provided with on the job training in the specific tasks they will be required to perform while volunteering. Staff will be available to answer questions and provide support.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Childcare, assisting with or leading group programming, shopping, household helpers, cooking and/or baking, helping with special events


How will a person benefit from volunteering with Camrose Women's Shelter Society?
Volunteers will learn more about the role and functioning of a women's shelter and about domestic violence in general. They will experience the positive impact such an organization can have on the lives of those experiencing domestic violence. They will gain the satisfaction that comes with knowing they have helped a woman/family in a time of great need.


Do you accept high school students?
We are willing to except certain high school volunteers if they meet all other requirements. Please contact Volunteer Coordinator to discuss.
