What services does your organization provide?
Emotional Support for cancer survivors and caregivers through Peer Support and an educational program called Living Well Beyond Cancer

Free transportation by volunteer drivers to and from cancer-related medical appointments when rides cannot be arranged within the patient's own network.

Health Promotion, Cancer Prevention and Advocacy - campaigns, displays, presentations, youth committee, meetings at all levels of government and more

Fundraising - Organize your own event or help with one of our signature events and campaigns, including:
* Daffodil Days (April)
* Residential Canvassing (April)
* Relay For Life (June)
* Bark For Life (September)
* Wheels of Hope launch (Sept-Dec)


Do you have any age requirements?
No minimum age. In fact, you can volunteer as a family to help with special events or sell daffodil pins in April.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Time commitments vary from a few hours a year to a few hours a week, according to the role.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
All new volunteers need to complete an application form.

Those in certain roles also need to provide the names of three reference persons. Peer Support volunteers need to do a vulnerable sector screening and Volunteer Drivers need to complete forms for the Society to arrange a police record check.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
Our wonderful volunteers share a wide variety of skills, but those in particular demand are:

* Event planning for Bark For Life (September) and Relay For Life (June) (logistics, entertainment, promotion, team recruitment, corporate sponsorship,...)

* Youth Advocacy - helping to promote tan-free proms and other cancer prevention campaigns led by youth for youth

* Daffodil Month (April) - contacting businesses and sites where volunteers can offer daffodil pins in exchange for a donation


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
In the Brockville area, we currently require your ideas, leadership or support for:

Bark For Life (Sept 21 - 9:00am-12:00pm at Hardy Park)

Fundraising Event Planning

Fundraising Event Day Support

Volunteer Engagement, Screening and Interviewing Prospective Volunteers

Volunteer Driving

Emotional Support (need to be a survivor or caregiver who completed active treatment at least one year ago)


Do you provide training for volunteers?
Yes, orientation to the Society and training specific to the role, such as driver policy training, how to give peer support as a survivor or caregiver, Relay For Life leadership summit and more.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with Canadian Cancer Society Lanark Leeds & Grenville?
Volunteers receive an orientation to the Society and training specific to their role.

In some roles, volunteers get the chance to meet new people on a committee or during event day.
