Volunteer Information for Collingwood General and Marine Hospital

What services does your organization provide?
The G&M is an acute care hospital providing emergency care, diagnostic services including lab, imaging and cardio respiratory therapy, as well as two inpatient units (medicine and surgery). In addition, the G&M also provides care in speciality areas including obstetrics, orthopaedics, intensive care and surgery. The Hospital also provides out patient care including dialysis and a wide range of clinics including mental health and rehabilitation services. The G&M continues to provide care close to home for our community and plays a key role as an integrated orthopaedic centre for our region.


Do you have any age requirements?
15.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
4 hours/week


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Pass a physical examination. Get the flu shot and other immunizations. Police Check. Two references.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
Some postions require computer skills and others require prvevious health care training


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
All departments in our hospital use volunteers including the gift shop.


Is there any training provided for volunteers?
All volunteer positions have a training period of 8 -12 hours in the deparmtment and one all day training for general orientation


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Provding inforamtion and direction, transporting patients, friendly visiting, helping staff, gift shop selling merchandise and coffee/snacks, office assistance, restocking supplies, handing out ice water, assisting patients in food preference surveys, walking patients, feeding patients
