Conservation Halton is a community based environmental agency that protects local ecosystems in partnership with its watershed municipalities. As an agency established under the Conservation Authorities Act of Ontario, Conservation Halton forms a partnership with the Province of Ontario and the Regional Municipalities of Halton, Peel and Hamilton-Wentworth and Puslinch Township.

Our mission is to protect and enhance the natural environment from lake to escarpment for present and future generations.

Volunteer Information for Conservation Halton

What services does your organization provide?
Our key roles are:
Water Resources Management
Conservation Halton manages water resources using integrated, ecologically sound environmental practices to maintain secure supplies of clean water, to protect communities from flooding and to ensure that environmental planning is an integral part of community development.

Forest Resources Management
Conservation Halton manages a large forest resource using sound sustainable forest management practices involving silviculture and wildlife habitat improvements which contribute to the health of the watershed's natural environment.

Lifelong Education and Recreation
Conservation Halton creates educational and recreational experiences in natural environments that enrich the lives of people of all ages by instilling awareness and appreciation of the watershed's natural heritage.

What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
It varies depending on the position. Time commitment can range from a few hours for a single day event to 80 hours over the course of the ski season.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Positive attitude, an interest in contributing to the community and the natural environment. Some positions may require a vulnerable sector screening.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
It varies depending on the position. All volunteers receive general health and safety training. Depending on the position, they will receive orientation and training in the necessary skills to perform their tasks.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Single day event such as community tree planting and two education festivals. Environmental monitoring with the ecology department. Mountsberg Raptor Centre assisting staff to care for injured birds of prey who reside there. Ski patrol and snow school at Glen Eden during the winter. Trail ambassadors at the parks in the summertime. Trail maintenance work at the parks.


Do you provide training for volunteers?
All volunteers receive general health and safety training. Depending on the position, they will receive orientation and training in the necessary skills to perform their tasks.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Planting trees, working in customer service to improve park visitor experience, assisting at events, feeding and cleaning up after birds in the raptor centre, first aid, teaching ski and snowboard lessons, cleaning up trails which includes cleaning up debris and garbage, and other activities.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with Conservation Halton?
Training, practical experience, contribute to the community, high school volunteer hours, leadership development, networking and relationship building, to name a few.
