Do you have any age requirements?
16 to 21 for the youth services.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Training is 60 hours over 6 to 8 weeks.
Ask for one shift per week (3-4 hours) and one overnight shift every two months for a one year commitment.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
A one year commitment is requested.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
To be non-judgmental, empathetic.

Is there any training provided for volunteers?
60 hours training including Crisis Intervention Theory, Communication Skills, Grief & Loss, Suicide, Policies & Procedures, Resource Workbook. Followed by role-playing sessions, then shadow shifts.

How will a person benefit from volunteering with Crisis Prevention Intervention and Information Centre for Northern BC?
This is excellent experience for anyone in Social Work, Psychology, Medicine. Or anyone wishing to acquire good communication skills. We have had many students who have gained entrance to their chosen program partially based on their volunteer work here.


Do you accept high school students?
Yes. But they are still required to make a longer commitment than just their community service hours.
