Volunteer Information for Edacity

What services does your organization provide?
We provide hands on educational opportunities for rural Albertan high school students as well as an interactive interactive social media platform for students to connect with one another across the province. See www.edacity.ca for more information.

Do you have any age requirements?
16

Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
Knowing additional languages is an asset but is not required.

What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Six to seven hours on October 13 (11:00 am - 5:00 pm), plus one hour-long training session (dates TBA).

Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
All volunteers MUST have a valid police security clearance.

Are there any specific skills and experience required?
A desire to spread curiosity!

What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
The event involves 20 different hands-on challenges for the students. For example, there will be theatre, baking, sports, robotics, construction ect. We will need volunteers at each of these challenges, as well as on public buses and at the registration table.

Do you provide training for volunteers?
All volunteers are required to complete a brief volunteer training session to learn about the station that they are placed in as well as to ensure standardization of judges. These sessions will occur the week prior to the event (October 5-12).

What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
There is also the opportunity to mentor students in various fields of science or to host a student-group meeting.

How will a person benefit from volunteering with Edacity?
This is a great way to connect with professionals around central Alberta and to assist in teaching practical science skills to high school students. We also will be providing each volunteer with a t-shirt, free food following the event, and an invitation to our volunteer appreciation party.

Do you accept high school students?
Yes, as long as these students have a valid police security clearance.

However, we encourage high school students to sign up to participate in the event instead! Visit www.edacity.ca for information on how to register.
