What services does your organization provide?
The HR MacMillan Space Centre provides a variety of services to our community related to space and earth science education. Such services include school and public programs, observatory viewings of the night sky, science demonstrations, planetarium shows, workshops,and family activities.


Do you have any age requirements?
16 plus years


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Time commitments vary through the year, 3-4 hours per shift.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
A volunteer application must be filled out and references are required. Some positions require a criminal review check.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
Volunteers must come with a love of public speaking and interaction, enjoy space and earth sciences,and have a passion for life-long learning.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Volunteer opportunities are most often available for assisting with special events and family crafts and other activities in our public programs area.


Is there any training provided for volunteers?
Yes, full training and orientation is provided.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Special Events: Acting as host to meet and greet guests for events, providing direction and answering inquiries, providing information on HR MacMillan Space Centre programs and services.

Public Programs: Family craft and activity days include assisting with making crafts and interacting with the public on a variety of topics related to earth and space science.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with HR MacMillan Space Centre?
A person will benefit from this volunteer experience by gaining a knowledge of earth and space sciences, understanding how to interact with the general public and children, and by continuing to appreciate learning as a part of our everyday lives.
