Habitat for Humanity GTA serves families living in Brampton, Caledon, Toronto, and York Region. Habitat for Humanity GTA is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canada, which is a member of Habitat for Humanity International - the largest not-for-profit home builder in the world.

Our mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners to provide affordable housing and promote home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.

Volunteer Information for Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area

What services does your organization provide?
Founded on Christian principles, we welcome all people without discrimination to join us as we build simple, decent and affordable homes in partnership with low-income families.

By owning their own home, families are able to achieve greater stability, and improve their overall health, while building equity for their future. One hundred percent of all administrative and fundraising costs are paid for by the operation of our ReStores so that every donated dollar goes directly to home building. Habitat ReStores sell new and gently-used donated building and household products. "


Do you have any age requirements?
All volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years of age, and must be accompanied by an adult on our build sites if they are under the age of 18.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
ReStore volunteers must commit to a minimum of one 4 hr shift / week.

Build volunteers can commit to a day at a time.

Habitat Ambassadors are on an as need dictates for our community events.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
No trades experience required for our build sites.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Our current volunteer opportunities are as follows:
Restore Retail Volunteers are in need Monday-Saturday
Salvage Crew Members
Habitat Ambassadors
Build Volunteers with build sites throughout Brampton-Caledon, Toronto and York Region
Special Events like Home shows and community events


Do you provide training for volunteers?
All constituents must become a Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) certified Habitat GTA Volunteer.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area?
Volunteers gain experience in team work, customer service, retail.warehousing and in the construction trades.
Letters of recommendation can be provided.


Do you accept high school students?
Habitat for Humanity is a registered not for profit where students may obtain their community involvement hours required for graduation.
