We are HepCBC, the Hepatitis C Education and Prevention Society! We are a non-profit organization run by and for people infected and/or affected by hepatitis C (HCV).
Our mission is to provide education, prevention and support to those living with HCV. We have been operating since 1996.

Volunteer Information for Hepatitis C Education and Prevention Society

What services does your organization provide?
We offer resources and support to those infected and/or affected by HCV. We also promoting awareness about HCV through campaigns and events across British Columbia. We offer guest speakers and help organize viewings of the documentary: Deal with it: Untold Stories of Hepatitis C in Canada. We also offer a comprehensive document: Peppermint Patti's FAQs on Hepatitis C.

We have a monthly bulletin that is distributed across Canada that outlines current news, treatments, and events related to hepatitis C. We also advocate to government officials to improve accessibility to treatment and invest in preventative measures to reduce future burdens on our health care system and minimize human suffering.


Do you have any age requirements?
Minimum 18 years of age


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
Not required but additional languages would be an asset.

Incidence of HCV in immigrant groups is high, and for this reason we would like to translate as many of our pamphlets as possible.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
We are flexible.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
We require all of our volunteers to sign a confidentiality oath and supply and criminal record check (we provide letters)


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
Post secondary education considered an asset


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
We are looking for motivated volunteers to assist with:
-office and administrative duties
-organizing and promoting events
-assisting with the distribution of pamphlets
-article writing and editing for our monthly bulletin
-translating
-advocacy work
-and more!


Do you provide training for volunteers?
The training offered is dependent on the volunteer role and the level of experience of the volunteer.

How will a person benefit from volunteering with Hepatitis C Education and Prevention Society?
We believe in building capacity, and support our volunteers with developing the skills they wish to develop. We always provide our dedicated volunteers with letters of reference.

Many of our interns have continued volunteering after they've completed their placement because they find working with HepCBC to be so rewarding. We offer volunteers the opportunity to to publish articles, meet with community figureheads such as MPs or MLAs, help organize and promote events, and more!


Do you accept high school students?
We would be open to the possibility under the right conditions.
