What services does your organization provide?
To grant wishes in Northern Alberta so that every eligible child has the opportunity to have their wish fulfilled. Granting a wish is a wonderful, magical, and moving experience. The realization of a wish come true has a profound affect - not only on the child who has the life-threatening medical condition - but on the child's family, the volunteers and all of the caring supporters who make the wish happen. Having a wish granted fills children with hope, strength and joy. In fact, medical evidence suggests the experience helps to make ill children stronger - stronger to fight ongoing treatments.

18 years of age


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No, but an additional language may be useful.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
20-30 hours per month


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
This position requires a significant time commitment. Wish Grantors work with a partner and are matched with one child at a time. The time required to help grant a wish varies greatly based on the nature of the wish and on your efforts to enhance the wish to be sure it is as magical as possible. Some wishes may take a few months, while others can take up to a year. Wish Grantors are expected to make contact with their Wish Child regularly during their match. Wish Grantors average around 20-30 volunteer hours a month. This includes visits with the child, researching enhancement ideas, phone calls and emails. A large amount of volunteer work for this position can be done from home.

What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Wish Grantor - As a Wish Grantor you will embark on a wonderful journey helping make a child's wish come true. One of the areas our volunteers enjoy most is using their imagination to help enhance the wish to make it absolutely as magical as possible. Your main priority is to create an unforgettable wish experience for a child with a life-threatening medical condition.

While our in office Wish Coordinators will schedule flights, get passports, and take care of wish logistics - the Wish Grantor is there to give the wish family that special attention they deserve, to make the child feel like royalty, and to put the cherry on top of this once in a lifetime event. Supersize and Personalize!

Wish Grantors work in teams of two. If you have a friend or family that you would like to volunteer with please apply at the same time. If you do not have a partner, don't worry, we can pair you up with another Make-A-Wish volunteer!


Do you provide training for volunteers?
Yes, training is done online through power points.

Wish Grantor, office helpers and special events.

There is power in a wish - a power that impacts all those involved in the wish granting process. From the wish child recipient, to the volunteer wish grantor and donors, the power of a wish is a magical thing to experience. Each wish is as personal and unique as the child who wishes it.
