The Museum has been very successful and beneficial to residents and visitors of Strathcona County. It has received thousands of visitors and hosted hundreds of guided tours including schools, seniors, clubs and organizations. With the assistance of thousands of hours donated by volunteers, the Foundation has collected over 18,000 artifacts and 140 metres of archives. In tribute to these contributions a Commemorative Lasting Recognition Wall is located in the lobby of the Museum.

Since 1997, we have been located at the Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre, the building where the regiment was based from 1920 to 1965.

Its purpose was to "maintain, preserve, further develop and expand Millet's cultural resources and to ensure them for future generations by operating the Millet and District Museum.

In the early 1980s, a group of Wetaskiwin volunteers received an edict from city council to form a museum society for the purpose of preserving Wetaskiwin's history. The Wetaskiwin and District Museum Society, which was officially incorporated as a non-profit society on the 20th of May 1986, has been collecting and preserving the history of the City and County of Wetaskiwin, as well as the neighbouring Maskwacis Cree Nations ever since. On June 3rd, 1986 The Wetasiwin & District Museum officially opened its doors to the public. This first museum was located in the old Calgary Power Waterworks Building at 5010 - 53rd Avenue.
