Volunteer Information for NEEDS Inc

What services does your organization provide?
NEEDS runs a variety of programs for newcomer children and youth. These include: introduction to Canadian education, crime prevention (includes our mentorship program), employment skills, and youth after school drop-in.


Do you have any age requirements?
To become a volunteer mentor at NEEDS you must be 18 years old.


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
No additional languages are needed although they can be an asset in some cases.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Our mentors commit to one year of volunteering and six hours a month.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Mentors must go through an interview and training process. They also need to complete a criminal record check and child abuse registry check.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
No.


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
One-on-one mentorship.


Is there any training provided for volunteers?
We run a training session on youth safety for all of our volunteer mentors.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
One-on-one mentorship. Volunteer mentors take youth out into the community and engage them in recreational and educational activities.

We occasionally accept mature high school students.
