Nellie's

What services does your organization provide?
Nellie's provides them with everything else they need to reclaim dignity and control of their lives. At Nellie's, residents receive a safe place to stay, food and clothing for up to 4 months depending on individual circumstances and needs.
We provide referrals for their legal rights, information on community programs and educational opportunities. We assist them in finding safe, affordable housing so women do not become homeless - or worse, be forced to return to their abusers. We provide aftercare and follow-up support with special attention to vulnerable children, youth and disAbled women.

Do you have any age requirements?
16 year old.

Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
Cantonese, Mandarin

What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
10-3pm

Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Be able to work from Monday to Friday during the day time.

Are there any specific skills and experience required?
people oriented.

What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
We only recruit once a year in July

Is there any training provided for volunteers?
Yes, Volunteer Orientation usually run in August

How will a person benefit from volunteering with Nellie's?
To help out the community; to help the new comers to earn some Canadian experience; to earn some skills eg answering phone calls, photocopying, typing, organization skills etc.

Do you accept high school students?
Need to be a year of commitment.
