The formation of Easter Seals Ontario can be traced back to November 28, 1922, when representatives from 10 Rotary Clubs met in Windsor, Ontario to discuss the inadequate resources and support available for the province's children with physical disabilities. Recognizing a need for action, they formed the Ontario Society for Crippled Children, inspired by the American organization of the same name, which had been recently created by Ohio businessman, Edgar Allen.

In the 1980's, Canadian naturalist Bill Carrick learned that he could imprint Canada geese (Branta canadensis) to follow him while he motored around Lake Scugog in his boat. Once the goslings fledged, they flew beside him, creating a unique filming opportunity.

Bill Lishman is a Canadian artist, sculptor and inventor who was among the first Canadians to fly ultralight aircraft. He realized that the speed of Mr. Carrick's boat matched the speed of his aircraft and he thought that maybe he could take the concept one step further by actually flying with the geese.

The Oshawa Senior Citizens Centres has a rich history in the City of Oshawa that began when the cornerstone was laid for the original Branch, 43 John Street in 1968. Leaders in the community thought that a drop-in destination would be good for the City. The community welcomed the social and activity opportunities when the Branch opened in 1969 and it quickly flourished as a hot spot for older adults to enjoy dances, bingo, birthday and anniversary celebrations; in the first year, 1,000 people became members.
