Volunteer Information for Special Olympics BC

What services does your organization provide?
In 57 communities around the province, we provide year-round training and competitive opportunities in 18 different sports to more than 4,400 athletes of all ages and abilities, thanks to the dedicated efforts of over 3,400 volunteers.


Do you have any age requirements?
Program Volunteer

  • Age 12 Assistant Coach
  • Age 16 Head Coach
  • Age 19

  • Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
    Yes, all languages!


    What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?

  • 2 hours a week for coaches and program volunteers.
  • 10-15 hours a month for executive committee members.

  • Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
    Criminal Record Check.


    Are there any specific skills and experience required?

  • No experience required for program volunteers.
  • Experience and knowledge required for assistant and head coaches.
  • Experience required for executive committee positions, depending on the position.

  • What type of volunteer positions are typically available?

  • Volunteer Coordinator, currently.
  • Program volunteers, typically.

  • Do you provide training for volunteers?
    Yes, Special Olympics BC provides NCCP Sport Coaching training.

    Make a difference in the physical fitness of athletes with an intellectual disability. Share your love of sport and keep yourself active. You will help our athletes achieve their goals whether it's attending a local competition or reaching Provincial and National competitions.
