What services does your organization provide?
The organization provides four programs -

  • Distress/Crisis Lines
  • Seniors Safety Check-in Program (TeleCheck)
  • Reassurance Program
  • Postpartum Family Support Line for new mothers and families


Do you have any age requirements?
Minimum 21 years old


Do you require language proficiency other than in English?
All programs are offered in English and additional 8 languages - French, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin and Cantonese.


What time commitment(s) are you expecting from a volunteer?
Minimum of 12 hours per month.


Are there any other requirements for being a volunteer?
Able to work on Brampton and Mississauga sites.


Are there any specific skills and experience required?
Understanding and knowledge about mental health and community resources.
Non-judgemental and a good listener


What type of volunteer positions are typically available?
Volunteering opportunities include volunteering on all 4 programs as listed above along with the following areas -

  • Outreaching and representing the organization at various events
  • Marketing and Fundraising Committee
  • General Administration

Is there any training provided for volunteers?
Yes. All volunteers have to go through an intensive in-class training for at least 40 hours. The training includes mental health, crisis intervention and many other areas.


What are the typical volunteer activities occurring at your organization?
Listening on the telephone lines or making calls to the clients will be the main responsibilities for individuals volunteering on the programs.
For other volunteering positions, it may involve being a part of the committee.


How will a person benefit from volunteering with Spectra Community Support Services?
The experince will help not only professionally but personally too as it will help individuals understand and learn more about mental helath issues and the impact they make in people's lives by actively listening to them.

No, we do not accept high school students.
